Veldonn Printers, Kidderminster, has added squareback books to the portfolio of services it offers its clients following investment in a Horizon SPF-200L with two Vac 1000 Collators and Spine Master square back option from Intelligent Finishing Systems.

The new addition replaces an aging Horizon bookletmaking system to boost production capacity, improve quality and bring squareback production inhouse.

“The investment will speed up productivity,” states Dale Horton, Director. “It will also bring new business as a result of us now being able to offer squareback books.”

Veldonn Printers’ twin tower 4,500 bph Horizon SPF/FC-200L was chosen as it can handle both litho and digital print. It incorporates all the highly automated features of the successful SPF/FC200A bookletmaker plus the ability to feed A4 landscape sheets up to 640mm in length. JDF-ready, the system offers instant set-ups via a large icon-based colour touchscreen for user-friendly operation. The screen can be used for on-the-run fine tune adjustments as well as the store and recall of up to 200 jobs.

Mr Horton adds: “The new system offers job memory storage so the ability to archive many jobs will speed up make ready times. We can interrupt a long run job, quickly turn around a short run job and, within minutes, be back running a long run job.   We liked the build quality and automation the Horizon offers ensuring it can be made ready for a new job in seconds from a large colour touch screen with icon control.”

Veldonn also opted for the optional Spine Master to achieve squareback booklets: “This is something that will be very popular with our clients.  The SPF-200L can also produce landscape A4 booklets ensuring we are future proofed.”

The decision was made after a thorough review of the market: “We looked at all options on the market but as the Horizon system we replaced had offered great reliability and build quality that made the decision to invest in the tried and tested high quality build of the Horizon.”
